The servos in my DLG fuselage are attached with Goop (aka Shoe Goo). I'm probably going to replace my elevator servo - what's the best way to get the old one out?
I've read that Xylene will dissolve Goop - is that available locally? Will that hurt my carbon/fiberglass pod?
Finally, any suggestions for better ways to attach a servo to a DLG pod?

ooo.. phil would know the answer to this one.. i would guess anything strong enough to dissolve goop would prob. not be good for for epoxy in the pod.. but i really don't know. is there any heat shrink or packing tape wrapped around the servo??

In the Super Gee pod the servos are first wrapped in masking ( blue ) tape. You take a piece of balsa which has been sanded on the bottom to conform to the shape of the pod and epoxy it in where the servos will be located. That piece of balsa is your servo tray. Tape wrapped servos are epoxied or c'ad onto it in the proper location. It's not too difficult to remove them if necessary. In the RC Builder site, Aradhana has an assembly guide for the Light Hawk DLG, essentially a Super Gee II. This has within it a description and diagram of servo installation into a DLG pod. You'll find it helpful. rcbuilder.com/lh_guide/welcome.htm Also, the following PDF gives a good drawing of the installation of the servo tray and servo arrangement for a DLG: rcbuilder.com/lh_guide/pod-gear-installation.pdfPete

The solution is like peter says wrap the servo with something... Tape or even better Heat shrink tubing
But that doesn't answer your question. You can try to cut it out with a HOT exacto blade. what I do is take an old N011 blade heat it with propane torch .. get it red hot & bend it in the shape that will allow me to scoop under the object I'm trying to separate. then let it cool & re heat & carve the servo out.
Any solvent strong enough to cut goop is strong enough to melt your servo case.. So is a hot knife for that matter but at least you have some control over where it cuts.
